A swamp tour wouldn’t be complete without seeing an alligator or two.
Our tour guide had one on board. He spend a lot of time telling us about this alligator and how to handle it. Then he passed it around the boat. If you wanted to hold it, you could. I did. 🙂
The alligator pass.
Back Story
Christy, Jesse, and I took the Amtrak Crescent from the train depot in Anniston AL to New Orleans for a week of adventure and photography. This train station is a classical revival depot and is listed in the National Registry of Historical Places. Jesse loves to ride the train. Heck, we all love to ride the train. We left August 8, 2013 and returned August 14th. Unfortunately Jeremy couldn’t go this time. He had to work.
Christy’s father was kind enough to drive us to the train station and pick us up so we wouldn’t have to leave a vehicle parked there for a week.
We stayed at our usual place, the historic 905 Royal Hotel in the French Quarter. The 905 Royal was built in the late 1890’s.
See what else I’m doing.

True story: About an hour ago I stumbled upon a YouTube video of a python eating an alligator. The gator was probably about 4-5 feet long, and the python was bigger than anything I’d ever care to meet up with face to face. It wasn’t pretty.

WOW! I wouldn’t want to walk up on a snake or an alligator that big. I have great respect for large predators.

YAY!!! Gators!!! 🙂
Ha! Pass the Gator would be a fun party game! 😉 😛
I think it’s so so SO cool that you held the gator!!! I wanna’ do that!!! 🙂 Was he all smooth on the bottom side and all bark-y-rough on the top side?!
Did you give him a kiss?! 😉 Snort! 😀
HUGS!!! 🙂

He was tough, but not scratchy rough on top.
I hope you get to hold one one day. It was great fun! Passing it from person to person almost did turn into a party. It was definitely a bonding experience for the group.
No kissing. rofl

I’m glad you lived to tell about it!!! I’m getting ready to visit thepolar bears in No. Canada — had to sign a release that I know they are wild animals and could attack or eat me!

Polar bears! Wonderful. I’m looking forward to seeing the pictures of that. Don’t get eaten. 🙂

cool photos of cool creatures, and dangerous ones.
I love trains. when we moved from cali to oklahoma, when I was a small child, we took the train all the way.

It was different seeing them in the wild. Before this I’d only seen them in captivity.
One of the kinds of things I want to photograph is animals (like these) in the wild. I plan to spend some time in the Everglades. I’d also like to photograph bears in the wild. A few years ago I was able to get some photos of a mother bear and her cubs.
Trains are fun!

that would be a meditative thing, it seems, to spend the time alone, quiet and waiting for the animals to show themselves. ?

I think you are right. I think I could enjoy that.
