The White-tailed deer is a beautiful herbivore. I always enjoy seeing them in the yard, woods, and along the sides of the road (have to careful not to hit one). This deer is popular with hunters both for it’s antlers and meat (which is quite tasty). Sadly, hunting clubs are taking over a lot of the wild areas in the state. Even if that land is public land, once a hunting club leases it, the land is off limits to people who aren’t members of the hunting club even if they aren’t hunters.
There have been two or three deer around the house the entire time I’ve lived here (10 years). I see them a couple of times a year in the back yard and I’ve seen one in the front yard twice.
Seeing the deer is always a surprise. Seeing the deer and having a camera handy is a Magick all it’s own.
See what else I’m doing.

hugs. She was peacefully munching. I had to move to get the camera and I was surprised she didn’t notice. She did notice the shutter click though. lol

How beautiful, JR — I hope that your house can become a retreat for the deer being hunted!

Definitely. There is no hunting around here. Well at least for a mile or so around here.

Love these photos of the deer and hunting clubs should be illegal out there killing for the joy of killing, and not for meat for the family table.
I recently made an enemy of hubby’s Uncle when I told him I do not agree with his hunting clubs slaughtering trips to kill innocent animals for the thrill of killing.
Oh well!!

You did the right thing. I am against hunting clubs that bait animals. If a person kills a nanomal they should have to eat it.

You inspired me to do a posting about the deer.

Wonderful. I’ll watch for it.

I made a mistake mine was on goats. 🙂

I figured it out when I saw the video. Goats are kind of like little deer. 🙂

On one of my walks today I saw a hawk, two ravens and some doves! I love watching the wildlife! Over Christmas I took a drive to look at Christmas lights on houses in the area and saw 8 large javelinas and four babies! I was so excited! They were way better than the Christmas light! 🙂

I’ve never seen a javelina. Seeing that group is wonderful. Cool!
