Across the road from the Mt. Zion AME church is an ancient cemetery. Many of the grave markers are long gone. There are a lot of graves there. You can see dips in the ground where the graves sank.

That’s a neat shot of the church — is it still active? What a shame that the cemetery looks so dilapidated!

Yes, the church is still active and they have a modern, well maintained section. I don’t know what the deal is in this section. It’s needs a lot of work.

Wow amazing photos of this old cemetery. Sos ad the graves are sinking and like Janet said, beautiful church. Looks like a friendly old country church.

When I get back through there I want to try and talk to the pastor about the cemetery.

Solace to the families of those whose graves are fading, or have disappeared. The spirit in many country churches is amazing.

It is. I’ve met some amazing people in old country churches.

Me too. I look for them. I need to get some paper, tape, and charcoal to make rubbings.

This is a beautiful set of photos. Something peaceful about nature wrapping her arms around her own again.. life circle complete.

Yes, nature is reclaiming this.

Your shots of the cemetery shows that sadness that one comes there for.

Thank you. I didn’t think that would come through. I’m glad it did.

I enjoy walking through old cemeteries. So much history and LIFE represented, yet also the sadness of losing the people we love. It makes me stop and appreciate what I have right now.
Evocative images, as always.
