No-thingness
“Buddha has chosen one of the really very potential words–shunyata. The English word, the English equivalent, “nothingness”, is not such a beautiful word. That’s why I would like to make it “no-thingness”–because the nothing is not just nothing, it is all. It is vibrant with all possibilities. It is potential, absolute potential. It is unmanifest yet, but it contains all. In the beginning is nature, in the end is nature, so why in the middle do you make so much fuss? Why, in the middle, becoming so worried, so anxious, so ambitious–why create such despair? Nothingness to nothingness is the whole journey.” ~ Osho Take it Easy, Volume 1, Chapter 5
I once lived in a big house full of collected life items. There was a huge shop too. It was cluttered with the items of life too. As I cleared these spaces in preparation for life in the road, I discovered all this empty, creative space that cried out for dancing and play. What had I discovered? I liked it. I worked on decluttering other areas of my life: my thoughts, my feelings, my commitments, and my wants.
Now I have this creative space, an emptiness, a void….
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. ~ Genisis 1:2

Far from being free of clutter, I’m just beginning that chore of decluttering. Like you, I am finding that I like the progress as I see it. It will be a long process, but I’m looking forward to it!

It took me several years for the possessions. I may not be done yet. I have a bit stashed in a storage space.

I’m hoping to move in about 3 years — hope I’ll at least have the possessions sorted by then!
Sep 11, 2015 @ 18:14:50
It was a 3 year decluttering for me.

Does the motivation get any easier as time goes on?
Sep 11, 2015 @ 20:25:30
Yes it did. At some point the realization that I’d have no where for stuff got me going. The beginning was pretty easy. I just tossed out trash I’d been keeping.
Sep 11, 2015 @ 20:36:18
That’s about where I am now — throwing stuff away to make room for other stuff that hasn’t been put away — then organizing it all and throwing more away!
Sep 12, 2015 @ 07:54:48
Isn’t it odd how stuff just seems to accumulate over the years.
Sep 12, 2015 @ 12:09:54
And how much of it is just STUFF!

Exactly

I once did a program for meditation that was Buddhist related. And learned how to meditate for nothingness and walk about feeling nothing. It was very interesting.
Sep 11, 2015 @ 18:07:42
I don’t think meditation is about not feeling. I think it’s about seeing one’s feelings as separate from who one is. My thoughts and feelings aren’t me. They are things I am experiencing just like I experience driving down the road.

Nothing is everything. Every thing is nothing.

It’s a wave. It’s waving at us and we are waving back.

loving this, of course. wisdom. and the de-cluttering thing…I could do a whole post, just on that. but, the space created is it’s own reward. my instant response seems to be ‘creating’ something. I DO know my thinking clears up, as my space clears up. life is good. thank you for sharing yours.
Sep 11, 2015 @ 20:26:46
I agree…my thinking/feeling clears up as my space clears up.
Sep 12, 2015 @ 18:02:14
Living light, holding on loosely, room to dance and create… yes, yes and yes
Sep 12, 2015 @ 19:12:25
It was a hard learned lesson for me. Grasping and clinging onto are none productive.
Sep 12, 2015 @ 19:18:50
It was a lesson I was at first forced to learn as a child in order to survive, and later embraced freely when I saw that it is how our earth system flows. You seem to be a master at the flow of life. You may have learned later but you learned well.

The less Ih ave to worry about the more I have to feel free and enjoy.
Love this post and th message about time to feel and not being bogged down with material things.
Sep 14, 2015 @ 07:24:11
