Personal Notes

Methodist Hymnal

2. I dreamed I was someone else in another world. I was in my 20’s, athletic build, short blond hair. Wishful dreaming. 😂

3. I live in a county in Alabama with a high risk of becoming infected. There are many cases here. The number infected is going up 25% weekly. It’s a red zone. I am at high risk of death if I become infected. Another red zone. So what did I do? I ventured forth from WHQ on a life or death quest to the grocery store. Stayed tuned to see if I get sick.

The plot thickens. The risk increases. On a side note, today’s Osho Zen Tarot card was the 7 of fire, Stress.

Thank you for stopping in for a visit. Your visits lift my spirits. Stay safe and well out there in the CCE. The sickness is spreading rapidly here. Much love ❤️

The Occasional Project V.3

Odd day vibes feels
Wonderingly wandering
Not 2
The Void
A point of creative space

Lots of my time in the last few months has been spent in daily meditation and self reflection.

Just as the CCE was beginning these words drifted into my awareness, “I am just a concept in my mind and a different concept in the minds of those who know me”. These words were my jumping off point. I always trust my cape and I’m known to jump. Additionally, Ram Dass’ ideas on becoming nobody crept into the mix.

Finally, “thinking different thoughts” was added when I read, “It was found that the average person has about 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day. Of those thousands of thoughts…95% were exactly the same repetitive thoughts as the day before. ~ TLEX Institute New thoughts seemed a good idea.

As these ideas swirled in my heart and mind they came together and chipped away at the foundations supporting the concepts of who I am.The ties that bind, loosened. My concept of myself, “ego” if I can go there, is out of focus.

It is scary. It is unnerving. Ask Lama Google, there is a fine line separating the mystic and the lunatic. As I voyage into these waters once more, there is a sense of disconnecting that is disconcerting. There is a sense of disappearing into the void that is both comforting and scary. What will be lost? What will be found?

I remember “It’s ok to be nobody”.
Enjoy the view. There is nothing else to do.

Thank you for stopping and interacting. You bring joy to my heart. Stay safe and well out there in the CCE. I love you.

The blue background contains a bat or flying demon or butterfly, a saguaro cactus, some cryptic silhouettes on the left and right, anthe Roman numeral X, and a pregnant woman or possibly a seahorse. There is possibly castle ramparts on the right. Protectors can be seen in the openings of the parapet.

A rust and purple aura surrounds a short haired figure wearing a white robe. The figure looks out thru kind eyes the mouth sports a wily grin. The figure’s welcoming out stretched arms terminate with hands sending positive energy and love.

What is meaning for me? I feel a shaman is welcoming me and protecting me in this place for the time I’m here.

Osho Zen Tarot Laziness #9 of Water

Laziness. Water: Emotions

When you are lazy, it is a negative taste: you simply feel that you have no energy, you simply feel dull; you simply feel sleepy, you simply feel dead. When you are in a state of non-doing then you are full of energy–it is a very positive taste. You have full energy, overflowing. You are radiant, bubbling, vibrating, You are not sleepy, you are perfectly aware. You are not dead–you are tremendously alive….There is a possibility the mind can deceive you: it can rationalize laziness as non-doing. It can say, ″I have become a Zen master,″ or, ″I believe in Tao″–but you are not deceiving anybody else. You will be deceiving only yourself. So be alert.

Osho A Sudden Clash of Thunder Chapter 8

The comment

This gentleman clearly thinks he′s got it made. He sits in his big over-stuffed chair, wearing his sunglasses, shaded by his umbrella, with his pink slippers and his pina colada in his hand. He doesn′t have the energy to get up and do anything because he thinks he′s done it already. He hasn′t yet turned to see the mirror cracking around him on his right, a sure sign that the place he thinks he′s finally arrived at is about to shatter and dissolve before his very eyes. The message this card brings is that this poolside resort is not your final destination. The journey isn′t over yet, as that white bird flying into the vastness of the sky is trying to show. Your complacency might have arisen from a real sense of achievement, but now it′s time to move on. No matter how fuzzy the slippers, how tasty the pina colada, there are skies upon skies still waiting to be explored.

From The Osho Zen Tarot

My take away?
I’m not done with this incarnation. There are more adventures ahead. Don’t be laying about on my cushions. Wake up. Get up. Get dressed. Get going. Life is short and there is still much to do and feel.

Covid Day 10

Osho Zen Tarot 3 of Clouds

My take away? In the time of Covid-19 the isolation can leave us feeling helpless, cold, and alone. It is ok to scream, beat your pillow or drum, and cry. I beat my drum every day. The rainbow-tears on the face are tears of hope, tears of healing, tears of growth. Feel the fear and the pain. Let it pass thru you. Be gentle with yourself and others. This is passing as all things are.

“A man who lives through conscience becomes hard. A man who lives through consciousness remains soft. Why?–because a man who has some ideas about how to live, naturally becomes hard. He has continuously to carry his character around himself. That character is like an armor; his protection, his security; his whole life is invested in that character. And he always reacts to situations through the character, not directly. If you ask him a question, his answer is ready-made. That is the sign of a hard person–he is dull, stupid, mechanical. He may be a good computer, but he is not a man. You do something and he reacts in a well- established way. His reaction is predictable; he is a robot. The real man acts spontaneously. If you ask him a question, your question gets a response, not a reaction. He opens his heart to your question, exposes himself to your question, responds to it….” ~ Osho

My take away? I continue to practice living mindfully, going behind the stories my ego maintains.

“Don’t be afraid of losing all the lies that need to be lost. Be more afraid of not finding the naked truth that, in the depths of you, screams to be found. You can’t lose what you no longer are. And what is really yours will never leave you.” ~ Andrea Bal

Cards for 2020

I pulled three cards at the beginning of 2020. The draw is a variation of past, present, and future.

Tarot cards: The Lovers, Receptivity, New Vision. They are laying on my home altar.

I wasn’t surprised when The Lovers showed up as the past card. I haven’t had a lover in almost 20 years. I came very close once.

The present card is Receptivity. I try to be mindful and to practice loving awareness (From Ram Dass). Being receptive is part of my practice.

“Listening is one of the basic secrets of entering into the temple of God. Listening means passivity. Listening means forgetting yourself completely–only then can you listen.” ~ Osho

The coming year – New Vision. We will see what that turns out to be as the “nows ” unfold.

“When you open up to the ultimate, immediately it pours into you. You are no longer an ordinary human being–you have transcended. Your insight has become the insight of the whole existence. Now you are no longer separate–you have found your roots.” ~ Osho

These cards are from Osho’s Zen Tarot.

A Decade Review

Happy 2020

For starters I want to thank everyone who has been part of my journey during the last decade. I love and appreciate you. You teach me so much.

Next, you should see my 2019 review. It is a subset of the decade and mentions things I worked on for years.

Lastly, here is a short decade review.

What were the most persistent or significant challenges of the past decade?

I almost died.
Losing both my parents in less than a month.
Another decade without romance. I began the decade without romance and expect that trend to continue until my death.

What is my empowering take on overcoming or coping with those challenges?

I embraced death and we came to terms.
Trying to stay fit while living in the bonus years.
Embracing that I’m not someone who will ever be in a romantic relationship. That is a very empowering realization. I’m obviously not a keeper.

Where was my head, heart, money, and career in 2010?

I was a full time college professor at the beginning of this decade. Now I’m unemployed.
I lived in a nice stick and bricks house with my son, and a young family of three.
I was dealing with the fallout from the death of my parents: their estate, heart wrenching grief, being the oldest child I became next in the family death queue, and the backup I’d had all my life was suddenly gone.
I had companion parrot I loved deeply.

How have things changed since?

The house is gone and I live and travel alone full time in an RV.
My son moved to the west coast. The young family moved into my other house.
I’m living in the bonus years thanks to a pacemaker. I cherish each day now. I want to suck the marrow from the bones of life.
I no longer have a parrot companion.
I am embracing change and several other paradoxes.

In what ways did the Universe guide me in a direction I did not expect?

The close encounter with death got my attention. Hard to ignore that one.

How did that serve the highest good?

It made living mindfully a lot easier and living mindfully is a game changer.

What event, accomplishment or relationship meant the most to me?

Not dying.
I have a female friend who sometimes is kind to me and other times treats me worse than she treats a stranger. I love her. On the first day of 2020 I’m not sure how she feels about me.

How did this decade prepare me for the next decade?

I have a pacemaker. Maybe my heart will make it another decade. I’m not counting my eggs before they hatch though.
I am much better at living and much better at dying.
Relationships are two way streets. Anything less than that is not a relationship.

If I had to fit the story of the last 10 years into a story or movie genre, what would it be?
