Adventure Ahead Update

It’s not long now.  NOLA bound in 3 days! (updates in green)
I’m so excited.  I’ve been getting ready for several days.  I still have a lot to do but I have done a lot too.
Last laundry loads done!
Clothes packed!
Extra bird food and a bird toy procured!
Toothpaste and deodorant purchased and packed!
Meds packed!
Backuped netbook and delete things to free up space

Left to do:

Leave form
Finish packing
Mow the entire yard – This is 2/3rds complete
Hook up light timers
Charge all devices and batteries
Take out trash and wash dishes right before leaving
Pack cameras, related gear,  and electronics

Train ticket…..done!

905 Royal Hotel, New Orleans, LA
Reservation at 905 Royal…..done!

I’ll be gone a week.  Two days travel time and the rest playing and some impromptu street photography.  w00t! w00t!
I don’t have any firm things planned.  Here is the really short list of possibilities:

August in New Orleans will be hot and humid.  The Audubon Aquarium of the Americas  will be a nice and cool inside something to do.

Dirty Linen Night on Royal Street
This will be easy to do.  The place I am staying is located right where this festival is being held.  I can just go outside and be at the festival.  lol Easy Peasy.

Swamp Tour
There are several options for this tour.

Grayline Tours
This tour begins within walking distance of the hotel.  That is a plus.  On the downside, this hour and a half tour isn’t going to get too far out into a swamp.  It may wind up being a tour of the drainage canals.
Jean Lafitte Swamp Tour
This tour boat has a restroom on board.
Cajun Critters Swamp Tour

I have to make sure they can accommodate Jesse which means they probably need a restroom on the boat.  The tour boats are covered so I won’t be riding in the hot August sun.  I wouldn’t want my shaved head to burn.  The air boat tours I checked out didn’t take children under five.

COOLinary New Orleans is another happy coincidence.
Oh wait.  There are no coincidences.

See what else I’m doing.

The Evil Plan Formerly Known as Toddler Train

On the whim of a toddler this evil plan has been renamed Transformer Train. Suits me.  It will be a transformational experience.

I enjoy traveling by train.  Today we’ll be boarding the Amtrak Crescent in Anniston and heading to New Orleans for a few days. Such adventure awaits. There is just so much to see and do there.  For a phototog like me, it’s a ‘mega mall’ of possibilities.  Toss traveling with a toddler into the mix and it can’t help but be an interesting expedition.  There will be a lot of ‘firsts’ for him:  train ride, carriage ride, street car ride, bug museum, voodoo, Mississippi River, to mention a few.  This is an opportunity to see the world freshly through his eyes.  w00t! w00t!  I think I’ll be taking a lot of my pictures from his point of view.

Stayed tuned for random updates on the trip.

Have a wonderful week!

See what else I’m doing.
