QOTD: You can make no peace with the ignorant. ~ Carnival Row

Scene 1:

Grace emerges in the ebb and flow, not just the flow.

The waning reveals a different kind of blessing than the waxing.

But whether it’s our time to ferment in the valley of shadows or rise up singing in the sun-splashed meadow, fresh power to transform ourselves is always on the way.

Our suffering won’t last, nor will our triumph.

Without fail, life will deliver the creative energy we need to change into the new thing we must become. – Rob Brezsny

Ram Dass refers to the waning as fierce grace, growth through suffering.

What a day with the Belle and E.

Freshly made bagels with freshly made cream cheese and Costa Rican coffee for breakfast at the Crestline Bagel Company.

Playing in the pool at an upscale health club. The body wash in the shower was decadent.

Spicy Pineapple Pizza and $5 Bloody Marys at The Slice for lunch.Enthusiastic pizza muncher

Eating with gusto

Mansion Live local music, food trucks, vendors, and dogs at Do Dah Day. Also there was the too drunk to be walking around around alone lady who came up and joined us for a minute or five.Do Dah Day reveling E and I

Aldis and Trader Joe’s for party supplies

Black Toad Dark Ale

Belle’s red Jeep ran hot. I entertained E while she arranged the tow truck.

Pep Boys was less than helpful

The tow truck and Uber driver arrived at the same time. I totally appreciate miracles, especially with a 2 year old and loads of groceries in the mix.

Back at the house. Everything put away. Chillin.

Late night run to Jim Burke to check on the red Jeep. The tow truck driver left it parked on the street at the service department.

E was a most excellent 2 year old companion during all these antics.

Back at the house. Chillin’ with a Black Toad. Black Toad Dark Ale

A great sleep.

NOLA Day 3

I was walking around Mid-city and came  across this shrine to La Santisima Muerte.  Very interesting.

It’s pretty hot and humid. Jesse and I sat on a shady park bench in Jackson Square while he enjoyed a frozen treat.

I enjoyed my treat,  Dixie Blackened Voodoo Lager at the Morning Call.    I thought it was delicious!

NOLA City Park

I mentioned we visited City Park and Storyland on this trip.

Jesse really enjoyed climbing on one of the mature live oaks found in City Park.  City Park is home of the oldest groove in the world.

Catch me momma.

One of Jesse’ favorites in Storyland was the firetruck.

Not all trips to Storyland have happy endings.

Sometimes the story of life involves a few bumps and bruises.  A momma’s love can be a magic cure for most things.

Leak

I discovered a leak in the roof. I wondered where the water came from in the kitchen floor. Now all I have to do is find a roofer before it rains again. haha Wish me luck.

Totally unrelated picture.

Playing on Jackson Square

Friends sitting on an ancient cannon.
One of Jesse’ favorite stops in New Orleans is this cannon.  He loves to sit and climb on it.

Mother and child looking up.
I never asked what they saw. It must have been good. They looked a long time.

Child running.
Catch me if you can!
He was having a great time running, jumping, and playing.

Mother hugging child.
Once in a while he would take a tumble and some mama love would save the day.

We  had a great time that afternoon.  Lots of fun!

Back Story

Christy, Jesse, and I ran off on a spur of the moment adventure to The French Quarter in New Orleans.  We left on Tuesday and returned on Friday. We stayed at the Wyndham on Royal Street.  I was finally able to get a few pictures from above the third floor.  It was quite an adventure.  All trips to NOLA are.  lol

Day 4 of Positivity Week:  Best of 2013

What is some of the best times you’ve had this year? What are some of your happiest moments of 2013? Feel free to post pictures on this day if you have any and you can share more than one thing.

I’ve had a lot of good times this year.   You’ve seen pictures from many of them: New Orleans, Oak Ridge, Memphis, Nashville, Gulf Shores, and Fairhope.   Of course life closer to the house is filled with great times too.

Back Story

Christy, Jesse, and I took the Amtrak Crescent from the train depot in Anniston AL to New Orleans for a week of adventure and photography. This train station is a classical revival depot and is listed in the National Registry of Historical Places. Jesse loves to ride the train. Heck, we all love to ride the train. We left August 8, 2013 and returned August 14th. Unfortunately Jeremy couldn’t go this time. He had to work.

Christy’s father was kind enough to drive us to the train station and pick us up so we wouldn’t have to leave a vehicle parked there for a week.

We stayed at our usual place, the historic 905 Royal Hotel in the French Quarter. The 905 Royal was built in the late 1890’s.
