I visited Devil’s Backbone again. It’s one of my favorite spots at Magnolia Branch. There are some cool rock formations. It’s not an easy place to walk.
QOTD: “The great lessons from the true mystics, from the Zen monks, is that the sacred is in the ordinary, that it is to be found in one’s daily life, in one’s neighbors, friends, and family, in one’s back yard, and that travel may be a flight from confronting the sacred. To be looking everywhere for miracles is a sure sign of ignorance that everything is miraculous. ~ Abraham H. Maslow, Religions, Values, and Peak Experiences

Southern Tire came out and repaired the slow leak in the inside driver’s side rear tire. The tire had leaked down from 100 psi to 50 psi in 3 weeks. Turns out it was the valve stem. $180 and worth it.
I really appreciate road side services.
The repaired tire back on WHQ.
I’ll check the tire pressure again before I roll on down the road to assure myself that the problem is resolved.
QOTD: “What we name as anger is actually only the incoherent physical incapacity to sustain this deep form of care in our outer daily life; the unwillingness to be large enough and generous enough to hold what we love helplessly in our bodies or our mind with the clarity and breadth of our whole being.” – From David Whyte’s book, Consolations: The Solace, Nourishment and Underlying Meaning of Everyday Words

I saw these lovely flowers down by Big Escambia Creek while I was meditating on the shore. They were tiny. This is a macro shot. This is the laundry area and one of the three bathhouses. It’s lovely here.

Previously I posted some pictures of Big Escambia Creek flooding. Here is a comparison.
Top: flooded Bottom: Water receded It was a beautiful day. This tiny blooms were the icing on the cake. I think they are huckleberry blossoms.I discovered this growing down by the water. This is my front yard a little before sunset.

I’m not sure about my project this year. I have a lot of questions I’m working out. I think it’s a photo book project. The first phase is collecting photos from my stay at Magnolia Branch Wildlife Reserve.
Here are a few from the flooding February 4th.
The road was flooded for a quarter mile or so. It was more than a foot deep around the curve. I didn’t take a picture there because I did not want to stop. I think I was off the road several times. Water leaked into the jeep. You can just see the yellow rails of the platform above the water at the bottom of the staircase. Normally that platform is 10 feet above the water. The day before I walked past that green sign 50’ or more down to the Big Escambia Creek. Not this day. The big, wide beach eroded and was still partially under water. I didn’t go there while it was mostly under water.
QOTD: “To achieve what the Zen Buddhists call “beginner’s mind,” you dispense with all preconceptions and enter each situation as if seeing it for the first time. “In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities,” wrote Zen teacher Shunryu Suzuki. “but in the expert’s there are few.”

February 1 I left South Montgomery and headed towards Atmore to hang out in the woods.
While getting prepped to leave, the inverter Freedom 458 had an attacked of humming. I panicked, makes several calls, messed with the inverter and then it stopped humming. My current plan is to roll to Atmore, order a replacement, have it shipped here and install it when I return to Montgomery. Keep your fingers crossed.
I bought fuel on the way. I have a 60 gallon tank.
I was running on empty. I have a nice, peaceful new yard. I’m looking forward to the campfires and bicycle riding as soon as the rain slacks up. My first visitor. I believe it is an assassin beetle.
QOTD: Many raindrops, trickles, streams, creeks, and rivers contribute to the pool of cosmic consciousness. Each tributary has its own eddies, whirlpools, stagnant backwaters, calm pools and rushing rapids. Where they converge the merging is not always easy. At times there is resistance, turbulence as each tries to have its separate way.

The last day of 2021. It’s rainy. Maybe I’ll make it back to WHQ today.
I thought this was an intriguing marketing idea. Tasty fruitThis one me was looking at me. What a surprise at WHQ. One of the air plants bloomed. Isn’t it lovely. I’m looking forward to the pups.
I’m back at WHQ. Things look and function as they should. It’s good to be back. It was good to be away. Sitting outside in shorts enjoying a cup of French Market Chicory coffee.
QOTD: “What worn-out shticks are blinding us to the blessings that life is conspiring to give us?
Which of our theories may have been useful and even brilliant in the past but are now keeping us from becoming aware of the ever-fresh creation that unfolds before us?
It’s not enough to terminate our stale mental habits just once. We have to ask ourselves rude questions and kick our own asses again and again.
We have to immerse ourselves regularly in the waters of chaos.
Our relationship with life has to be a never-ending improvisation.” – Rob Brezsny

2. Every week I go to the Alabama Safari Park. Taking pics there is one reason I’m parked here.
3. Here I sit, dictating. In the distance I hear the blaring of a train horn and the rumble of its wheels. The coffee is lukewarm French Market Coffee in the white NOLA cup. I’m warming my feet in front of a space heater.

I arrived in Pintlala November 1. I got here in the early afternoon and began the process of switching from travel mode to stationary mode.
This involves lowering the stabilizing jacks, picking up things I put on the floor for traveling safely, setting up the plants and ‘not an altar’, and getting out the other miscellaneous stowed items. It’s a several day process. There is no hurry.
Pint Lala day 2. In the a.m. i journeyed to the local grocer in the capital of a backward region of this country. I hope I obtained enough supplies for two weeks or more. Once back at WHQ, I stored most all the supplies.
3. I journeyed to the local safari park and after negotiating the price of admittance, spent some time with the creatures. Alabama Safari Park
4. I’ve been back to the safari park to take a few pictures. Good times.
